SUBJECT: P20W Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) Update

Tony Young, Deputy Chief of Staff, Governor’s Office

The Department of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) is providing an update on the progress related the development of the technical system. This update also includes progress made by the participating agencies to complete the governance, policies and procedures necessary to implement and use the system properly.

  • Collaborative efforts on this system were significantly delayed until January 2015 due to complications involving the former State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

  • After the change in administration at the Wyoming Department of Education, the Governor’s office has directed a broad cooperative governance model be drafted. ETS will submit the proposal by August 2015.

  • In building the Educator Credentialing system, which has the ability to the P20W SLDS, ETS has developed software libraries and modules that will be beneficial in the development of P20W SLDS as well. These libraries will give our development team a head start as we enter into our aggressive development schedule.

  • ETS is completing a proof of concept to be ready by the end of June 2015. This proof of concept will provide a platform for identifying and refining the user interface and functional requirements in advance of complex development. The proof of concept proposal has been accepted to be presented at a national education conference the first part of July 2015 in Washington DC.

  • Once P20W SLDS Governance is established, this body will ask to prioritize the completion of an MOU.

  • Expenditures have been kept to a minimum, but once the proof of concept has been proven a success, a more rapid pace of development is expected to occur.
